I found a primo looking sunroof today in a later GWag and I'm just wondering how hard it would be to put it in my 86 wag... I got to re-do the loner anyway... so why not cut a big hole while I'm at it! :D What do you guys think? The sunroof is 100-150 clams...

why? It'll just leak no matter how well u do it...doesn't seem like it's worth the frustration. Also that whole deal about cuttin away metal that could potentially save your life god for bid...

hmmm.. don't think I agree with it will leak "no matter how well you do it"... I guess being a sailor, AND owneing a wooden boat built in the 50's I know windows CAN be made water tight... And as far as cutting away steel, the strength of any roof is NOT in the center...
But hey... thanks for your oppinion. I honectly have not decided if I even WANT a sunroof or not... but it's fun to think about! :D

I haven't installed it yet, but I pulled a sunroof out of a vehicle for installation in my Wag. It took a couple of hours, but not too difficult. You'll want to get the 4 drainage hoses that go into the roof pillars.

I suggest making a paper template of the roof, too, so you will know where to cut. And the headliners are different, too. They divide differently between the sunroof/no sunroof models.

Hey, I'm in Virginia, too. Blacksburg. Where are you?

The Factory set up is a real sweet deal, even if the seal is leaking it drains into a catch pan and then out the hoses on all four corners out to the ground. Not only does the Factory sunroof look good, if anything it adds support to the roof, it has its own brackets that are bolted to the rails on both sides, there would be more support with this unit than the one missing support that would be there if no sunroof was installed. one of the nicest setups ever!!!! ;)

wow! I might just have to grab this when I get some cash! I am in the small town of Culpeper in northern Va. I can get this sunroof for around $150 and they will even pull it for me! It looks to be in perfect condition and the inside slidding cover is even the right color! Sounds like it might be WELL worth the effort! And I've always wanted to cut a big hole in the top of a car!!!!.... who hasn't!! :D

Actually I think pulling it is harder than installing. They used some real tough glue to glue the unit to the roof. It was a bear getting that out!!!!! It has to be done CAREULY!!!!!

I don't know this personally, but I've been advised that it's easier to replace the entire roof panel than it is to attempt installing a sunroof in a Wagoneer that doesn't have one.

I don't buy that last suggestion about replacing the whole roof pan. That's a lot of cutting & welding.

This is one I'd remove myself if I were going to install it. It's very helpful to see how it all goes together, including the drain hoses and all the gasket/trim pieces.

Mine matched color, too. Lucky find for me, and I think I paid $100 in Roanoke.

Well i've learned something new now..that's neat. But i still don't have the balls to cut a big whole in our Jeep...just couldn't do it. And yes they do look nice as heck.

Make sure the hole goes in the right spot, otherwise it goes to nightmare status!!!!

I use to install Velm sunroofs at our shop and never had one to leak. I have the factory sunroof in mine and it works great with no leaks. If you have a factory sunroof that leaks then its probally the drain tubes are stopped up. Take a air hose with a blow tip on it and stick it to each tube opening around the sunroof. This will blow out the clog and get it back to draining like its suppose to.
