Right; you can just remove it at the axle-yoke, wrap some duct-tape around the U-joint to keep the caps on, and tie it up out of the way.

Leak? All you have to do is like Bob said. Take the u-joint off at the axle. There is no fluid to leak. Four nuts and you are done. You can remove it completely by taking off the four nuts at the t-case also. Still nothing to leak :D .

Yeah; it won't leak- I was just thinking of the easiest way if you wanted to hook it back up again.

If the Qt has low range just put low range in neutral and go.

Yeah? For some reason I thought dolly+neutral was okay.
I'll have to check my manual, but if the QT is in neutral and you're spinning the rear shaft, won't the front shaft be isolated?

talntar, we'll take the rear shaft out if you already haven't. There's no low range unit on that rig.
Also, Quadra-trac's don't use slip yokes like a GM. The front of the rear driveshaft bolts on just like the rear does.
It can come right out, since it won't ever be going back in.... :D

I'd perfer if it came all the way out as well. I don't really want it to accidentally drop down on the highway and send debris hurling at my car at 50+mph :D (I'll be following the rig home smile.gif )
I'm kinda excited :D Its been a while since we towed a new rig home smile.gif

I was towing an empty tow dolly once I made it over 300 miles until I was about 10 miles from my house and I got a ticket from an unmarked police car (seems to be thre trend around here, all unmaked cop cars, also the CHP is now using SS camaro's for the freeways) 85 in a 50 zone.. I was driving through ope back country roads, only people on the road were me and the cop going the other way. $390 later and I got a clean recored...(I just went to traffic school)

Don't be jinxing us now! ;) smile.gif
Don't forget, the tow dolly's don't have brakes so make sure your tow vehicle is up to the task.
Also, when I towed Red home on dolly, the dolly fenders would crunch into the Wagoneers fenders on all but the widest turns.
If you are renting the dolly, the car transporter is not a lot more dough...it has brakes too.

243- Thanks for the advice, I think we will be fine though. We have pulled our fair share of FSJs home on dollies smile.gif at least 4 that I can think of right now :D

Yep, this will be the 6th Jeep I will have towed home on a dolly. Believe it or not, this will be the first Jeep I'm towing home with the J-10 instead of my V-6 S-10 Blazer's.
Matter of fact, CT's J-10 right above rode home on a S-10 Blazer towed dolly...
The worst one yet was towing my J-10 on a dolly inbetween Jersey barriers that were about 8' apart in highway construction. Talk about close.
Braking is definitely shaky, but I always increse my following distance, and use common sense. Haven't had any problems yet. Knock on wood!! :D
Oh yeah - don't plan on going 85!!! :D

Yeah the night my Jeep came home was, well, interesting... I still got a huge lump on the side of my leg  smile.gif
I'm sure we won't have any problems... I don't think there is any construction like there was down by your J10's former home...

YES - if it is dual range, just put it in Neutral on the QT... ;)
