tranfer case howl

got 72 wagoneer w 360/400/20transfer. The case howls like crazy in any gear and speed. put heavier oil in and helped a little but it seems to be tight and theres no slippage in drivetrain found exact replacement case w warranty for 125 and need to know if its cheaper to replace it or might it just be a bearing?

You are positive it is the transfer case? not a differential? anyway... the transfer case may indeed have a problem. there is some info on how to check it in the technical area. look at the front page under "technical library". Otherwise Im sure some more knowledgable folks will chime in.

sounds like a rear diffeential or a u-joint, not the t-case. are you sure its the t-case? can you get the thing onto a lift and run it to see where the noise is coming from exactly?
