Decided to replace my 89 GW's sagging headliner with what should have been in these bad boys to begin with - one made of real wood! Well nice birch plywood anyway. Would anyone be interested in pics of the project? I plan to do a custom overhead console as well. I've got the main center piece in - now just need to tie it into the trim pieces at the side. Also, anyone want to buy/have the old cardboards? They're in good shape but the fabric is all peeled away. Anyone need a decent-shape tan center seat/armrest? I plan to use some leftover birch to make a custom center console in the future.

Another project that went along with this ... I didn't get the key fobs with the remote keyless entry when I bought my GW. When I decided to do the headliner/custom console project I traced the wiring for the keyless entry receiver and found that I could tap into the circuit to lock and unlock the doors.
I simply cut the wiring harness away from the receiver circuit board and soldered wires onto it. Pink is 12V, green and black aren't used in this project - black is ground and green as far as I can tell has something to do with re-programming the receiver - and the other two activate the lock and unlock relays but I forget what colors they were (orange and brown?) and which is lock and which is unlock. Then I ran the pink, ornage and brown wires back to the rear window.
I got two momentary switches from Radio Shack and will mount them in the custom overhead console. Now when I'm putting groceries er I mean Jeep parts in the back I can hit the unlock button and let the wife and kiddies get in the doors.
As an aside, in the process of tracing the wiring, I found that this circuit activates the lock/unlock relays and the switches in the doors simply pass current through the high voltage side of the relay without actually activating it. The relays seem to work better since they draw less current so I may try to re-wire the door switches to activate the relays instead.

that sounds pretty cool. i would like to see how it turns out. but i would very much like your old cardboard. i pulled mine off and threw it away with out thinking of what i would eventaully do with out it. i ran into an old friend who knows an upholsterer who is going to cover it in a nagahyde type material to match the leather interior. how much of a pain was the rewiring? let me know what you want for it and how much to ship? thanks
