On an earlier post (Key stuck in ignition cylinder), I described my problem. Now I have taken off the steering wheel and removed all the screws and such described in the Hayne's manual for removing the ignition cylinder. I have positioned the ignition as described and I cannot pull the key out of the cylinder, nor the cylinder out of the column.

What gives? or what isn't giving?

I wish I could help, but you really would not want to know how I get them out..............It is not pretty :( :( I have tried to get them out several times. If you do exactly, word for word, right to the T, not one bit of variance from instructions, have all the right tools, IT WILL NOT COME OUT!!!!!!!! EVER!!!!!!!!! There really is only one way, and after trying so hard to get it out as per instructions from the Haynes Manual, it even FEELS GOOD having that HUGE hammer in hand!!!! smile.gif smile.gif Hope I helped, or at least brought the topic back up so as someone that can follow directions better than you and I. Maybe they can show us the error in our ways. I would like to add, that since I got a dremel tool for Christmas, key switch removal has become a lot neater!!!!! :D :D

The key cylinder has a spring loaded tab that retains it in the column. This tab MUST be depressed to remove the cylinder. Get a new cylinder, you'll need one anyway.Compare it to the one in the column. You will see where the tab SHOULD be.Some columns have a bit of flashing that hides the opening.Poke with a sharp, very small screwdriver where the opening Should be,and it will probably break through and let you depress the tab and remove the cylinder.

It worked for me!!!

turtle jim,

Your tip about having to make a hole in the flashing to get to the release tab saved me after 2 1/2 hrs of frustration. Glad I finally decided to check here for help...thanks...wg
