View Full Version : Will 36"x12.5"x16.5" hummer tires fit on J20?

I've found a reasonable deal on some hummer tires, but I haven't lifted the truck yet. It's not even driveable on the current tires, so I need new ones to even move this thing around on the farm.
Will these fit on my 16.5"x9" rims? THey might be wider, but I doubt it. They are aftermarket rims though.
Will these things rub under normal driving conditions until I lift it?
Am I a dumbaxx?
Question 3 is optional.

36" tires are too big for a stock J10, J20 or any FSJ for that matter. I would say 33" max without doing any off-road stuff.
You will need a 6" lift to fit hummer tires on there, or 3" and cut fenders.
BTW, I just bought some hummer tires for off-road abuse from a guy there in Austin. I won't get them for a few weeks but I'm really looking forward to them.

I had that suspicion. I am gonna do the RB shackles on the back, but I am still not sure about the front lift. I don't have the facilities for an SOA conversion here, but it's tempting to whip up some homebrew for trade and labor soon....

If you decide not to go with the humvee's and want to get rid of your rims i'd be interested in buying them from you.
Also, I sell humvee tires for $300/set plus shipping (about $150).
I'd really like to get a set of 16.5 rims so i can put a set on my wagoneer smile.gif .
Jeepin Matt - how bout some pics of those tires you say you are selling - how many you got, what are the specs? New? Used? etc.
interested

If I remember it should be pretty much bolt in. I think you might even be able to use your outers to keep the 8 lug pattern. Or get an axle from a 3/4 ton ferd.

Not positive there. Pretty sure anything 70's or 80s with leaf springs would work. Think that dodge, chevy, and ford axles are pretty close spring perch wise. Couple of them are right on and one I think is like 1/2" or 1" off. Someone else, with real experience there will probably pop in.

Watch out for the backspacing.
If the backspacing is any more than say 3.5" the rim may rub on the outer rim of the rear drums.
I tried to fit a later model ('99) Dodge wheel with something like 5" of backspacing and it hit there. These rims were 16" but all the same I don't think there was enough clearance if the spacing is like I described.

The reason those Hummer tires are for sale is because they are super loud on the highway and like ColeTrickle says, they're only used on the street. Also, the 16.5 size wheel is obsolete. Hard to get modern tires for them. Aren't some two-piece wheels?

I'd love to find a compatible front end to save me the welding. Then, I'm just shocks and a DPA away from at least clearing 36" tires. OK, meybe brake lines and some other littles, but that's it.
Also, the set I am getting are local, no shipping, makes sense for me to get 'em that way. As to noise, couldn't care less. smile.gif

Can you go to the page, copy the link from the top and post it into this thread?
