I've noticed a few places on my Grand where the paint has been chipped, and the metal beneath is rusting. These are small spots, the size of pencil erasers or smaller. What's the best wat to stop the rust? The rest of the body looks good, and the paint looks good too, so I'd like to avoid sanding a 3" diamater spot for every one of these. Any tips?
Also, the joint between the fender and the metal below the windshield has a trace of rust showing. Is there any easy way to get the rust out of that joint? It's just light rust now, but I'd like to stop it before it gets bad.
Thanks

Where are these spots ? Wags have certain areas that tend to rust on almost all. A small spot in these areas could actually be pretty big under the paint.

if you want it to look good, about the only thing you can do is sand it, prime it, paint it to match. Anything else is likely to show. Sorry. you could always just put a dab of POR15 or equivalent in the spot to keep it from rusting further until you get to it. Though this is no guarantee the rust will stop since you can't coat the edges.

The spots are here and there, on the sides mostly, a couple on the hood. I guess I'll buy some POR15 and dab it for now, and save up for a paint job. Another thing for my "one day" list. You don't need to do any surface prep for POR? Just paint it right onto the rust?

My 86 GW was a little worse then yours. I sandblasted all the spots, and then painted them with POR 15. Now I'm using filler to even out the spots. I ordered professionally mixed spray paint to do the paint work from www.paintscratch.com (http://www.paintscratch.com) Its a perfect match. When its done, it will be hard to notice.

Im not familiar with POR, but i do know that corosion starts on the surface of the metal. If you cover up the rust itll protect the surface, but underneath your going to continue to corrode. The best thing as mentioned before was to sand it down and use glass or something to fill it in with. Otherwise over time it is going to get worse.
my .02-good luck :D
