I went to pick up the 229 at pick-ur-part yesterday and found a 208 case in an 80 Chero that had just arrived. I grabbed the 208 instead but there was no rear driveshaft. Will the rear shaft from a 77 t400 QT wag work or does it have to be from a 208 equipped vehicle only.

It's probably not a matter of what it was connected to, as much as how long it is. If it's the correct length, then it should work fine.
If you have a J-20 like your nick suggests, then NO wag/chero driveshaft will be long enough.

The qtrac driveshaft should work. It is plenty long enough. I believe it worked on Jeepfreaks old rig.

Yup the Q-trac shaft will work fine. Worked on my 85 Wag. I believe it measured exactly 5 inches longer than the NP 229 shaft did.

Perfect, I have a 77 wagoneer parts rig complete except for the 401 so I will stop worrying about the rear shaft.
Lindel, I am doing a 208 conversion on my wag since my 229 coupling has failed. Both the vehicles are elsewhere so I do not have the measuements yet.
Thanks to all for the help

I noticed after I sent the note, and then for whatever reason, couldn't get back to it to edit. Didn't mean to step on any toes, I didn't realize you've got a wag, too.
