Hi I'm rebuilding a 85 360, to go into my 79...the motor in the 79 is mostly junk...now I've asked this before but can't remember the details..someone told me their was a bushing that has to go from the 79 crank to the 85's??? Well I have the motor out and off the 79 Tranny today, and I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking for? What does this bushing look like??? Also what else would I need to change between these two years? I'm putting on a 78 4v intake....
Thanks
Aaron

If you are hooking the '85 crank to a 727 you don't need the bushing if you are hooking to a th400 you will need the bushing. the bushing should be in the '79 crank but you won't be able to remove & reuse don't know where toget a new one but someone will chime in

its just a thin ring that goes into the rear crank hub there were 2 converters used 1 uses the ring the other does not they made the snout of the converter a little biger the ring can be removed by prying slowley and carfully as for buying a new one i would try a trans shop with out the bushing the converter walks enough to make the front trans seal leak and it can also eat starters and crack flex plates

chiefwidetrack, you have mail with photos showing the bushing. The engagement of the torque convertor snout into the bushing is critical as gsmikie points out. It centers the TC on the crank. I had to have a custom bushing made when I switched from a stock flexplate to a Mondello's SFI flexplate. The SFI flexplate is .25" thicker than the stock flexplate which moves the torque convertor back by that amount. Also the location of the balance weight on the SFI flexplate wouldn't allow the TH400 torque convertor to bolt up correctly. I used the smaller diameter and thinner TH350 torque convertor along with a custom bushing to provide the correct TC spacing and snout engagement. Wes

Look at www.oldcarparts.com (http://www.oldcarparts.com) and they should be about $19 or so. Part no. 800025 IIRC.
