Hey everyone I've been using this website for the last few months as a technical reference and finally decided to join up. Well anyhow, before I head off to work I thought I ought to ask for some help with my 85 GW.

1. I just replaced the rear main seal last week along with the pan gaskets because of oil leaks, yet I checked the torque converter access cover again 2 days ago and oil was still dripping out. Could this oil just be whatever is left from when the old rear main seal was in there or are there any other parts that might be causing this?

2. When I'm making aggressive turns my voltage needle jumps up, I've got no idea as to how to fix it or even what the problem might be but if you all do please let me know.

3. Sorry bout my lack of mechanical expertise but I do have to ask this. How important is it to be running type ATF fluid as opposed to Dexron III that comes in big gallon jugs you can find at pepboys?

Any help that you all can provide would be great. Thanks a bunch, off to mow some lawns now

Thanks again
-Chuck

type ATF? do you mean type F? There are 2 kinds of ATF, one is Dextron III and the other is type F all the others are previous versions of one or the other. it is VERY important to use the right one in your tranny, if your tranny needs dextron, then no matter if it is dextron I or II or III, dextron III will work. if it is type F, then that is what you need to use.. the difference is in the friction modifiers and other chemicals that they add to the fluid.

2. i would make sure your battery is secure and not grounding out against anything. then check the condition of your cables and your grounds.

benjaminShoot make sure it is securely mounted in the battery box!!!! Then make sure all the connections are clean, corrosion-free and tight.

And if you go into your profile and put your vehicles stats is makes it a little easier to help ya, and you don't have to keep reminding folks what vehicle you are talkin' about.....

And welcome!!!! ask all the question you want, that is what we are here for. The only stupid question is the one left unasked.....
