Finally found out why my wipers would not shut off. High speed voltage on the switch always on even with switch in off poistion. NOW,how much of a pain is it to replace the switch on stalk of an 89? Looks like the steering wheel will have to be pulled but I can find nothing to indicate how complicated is it. Has anyone gone thru this exercise?

I had to change the motor to fix this problem. The limit switch inside the motor was bad, so the wipers wouldn't shut off. Same problem, constant voltage w/ switch off. I was going to change the switch as well but couldn't find one, so changed to motor and worked! I suppose you could jumper the motor and be sure if you haven't already done it. My Haynes book was a bit sketchy on diagnosing switch or motor...

I checked and limit switch is ok and when I disconnect high speed lead, wiper works fine on low speed. Need to replace switch but would appreciate info on what I'm getting into.

I'm fairly sure that you'll need the GM lock plate removeal tool to get to the wand. Been a long time since i've done one though. It's a PIA without the tool!
