It does replace the factory ignition module, Depending on your desires you might also look at the 6 off-road.

The off road is the same as the 6A, but it is reinforced for all the rough driving these things can see. I am not sure of the price difference, but if it is not much and you do off road driving I would get the off road model.

Part number: PN 6470 is for the off road...

the price difference is about 100.00. i have seen cars that have to idle 1500 rpm because of a radical cam run the 6a box with no failure, so i foresee no failure, and i don't really need the rev-control. has anyone used the msd 5 box??

the website shows directions to wire to the existing duraspark module. but i had mine removed and have just the msd box. figured the oem module would crap out sooner than later.

Off road has a few more features than just the heavy duty case...

The mounts are different, the case is totally waterproofed, its BOMBPROOF (IMHO) Comes with GM weatherpack connectors at all the connections. I do recall its not actually the same as a 6A, it's setup for more low end torque than high end HP. Notice on most of the competitors websites (crane comes to mind) they use the off-road as a comparison for torque/HP numbers? Strange how they run their drag racing box vs a off-road box don't you think?

Mines wired up so if the MSD fails, I can flip the plugs at the ignition box, and be running on the OEM ignition right away.
