Does anyone have a source for the little square plastic trim mounting clips for the chrome strips down the side.

I have a 1980 with the thin 6 or 7" wood paneling strip. I removed all the trim to do the painting, and of course, broke a few clips. Also some were already broken when I got the rig. I will be needing to put this trim back on and dont know if those clips are avail still?

Any one?

Look for an auto body supply store in your yellow pages. A lot of the clips used by Jeep were used by other manufacturers. If I could get the clips for the trim on my 73, you should be able to get them for a later model.

If ANYONE finds these clips... I'll love you for life!!! :D ...I've been searching everywhere to no avail... it's been 4 years and still looking.... I have since filled the 72 holes for the clips, but would be more than eager to pop them back in and install my like-new chrome moldings that I polished out...

J4Grand,

IF you would be soooo kind as to give me the part number of the clips you used and where you got them.... I believe our moldings are the same.... I'll be forever in good graces with you ;)

Riverbeast, if and when I find a clip that will work, I will be sure to let you and everyone on the forum know. I WILL be putting my chrome back on, so not finding them is not an option. If I cant find the exact replacement, I will find a viable second option!

I can run by the place I got my clips after work today. I believe you're correct about the mouldings being the same. However, mine had an older metal clip. They were weird looking units- looked like an "s" on its side with a prong coming off one side. If this is what the plastic clips looked like then they should work. I think I've seen the plastic clips too- can't remember the exact shape, but I seemed to recall a prong coming off to one side. I'll let you know.

Thanks J4Grand... I didn't have the "s" style clips, but if they will work... that's what I need...I have called at least 100 places (no joke there... I'll show you the phone bill)from body shops to restoration shops to specialty fastener companies... NOTHING that would work for the little slightly off-square clip with the beveled edges...like this on a side view (face-down)

The center attaching pin is plastic as well.... push it thru the clip and the prongs spread..holding it to the body....

Yah, Riverbeast, thats the ones I have, the little square plastic ones. I only need probably 10 or so new ones, as most of them are still ok. I may rip some of the old metal S shaped ones off my 73 and see if I can get them to work.......

I think the metal "s" clips and the plastic square ones are interchangeable. I just got done stripping... hmmm, better make that ripping the chrome off the sides of mine. The plastic and metal were intermingled throughout. There were 2 layers of woodgrain on there, so I would guess that the PO broke some of whatever was on there and replaced them with the other.

All right boys- drum roll please.... The number of the clips I used on my 73 are an SNC 354. Better yet, check out AUTOBODY SUPPLY (http://www.autobodysupply.net). They have an online catalog that showed several different clips. On the 354s I used, there are 2 prongs coming off of the clip, I simply had to remove the inner prong.

Check out AutomotiveFasteners.com. They have an amazing inventory. Don't know if they'll have what you're looking for but this is a good source for any auto related fastener.
