So I finally think I have my Cherokee running right (not!). I am getting an intermitent loss of power while driving down the street. It is usually so bad that I have to pull over and shut it off. Once it sits for a bit, I can fire it back up and it is fine.
Some things I have replaced:
brain box
coil
fuel filter
I am thinking it is an electrical issue because it fires up after sitting for a bit. It also acts a bit like it is overheating as well so I am gonna check the temp gauge to make sure it is working right. Anyone else have some ideas on things to look for and check out?

I had a similar problem and it was the ignition coil. I would try that 1st as they are relatively cheap.

I've had this happen with a '65 Coronet. I replaced the ignition coil and it still did it. After letting the car set for several months because I couldn't figure out the problem I tried a known good coil.
The car ran perfect. 2 bad coils seems impossible but it happened to me. Try another coil. In fact if you haven't yet, do the TFI upgrade.

something else that seems to cause problems is the pickup coil in the dizzy. it gets hot and stops working

I'll try the pickup in the dizi. I have run 3 known good coils out of my spare parts kit in it and it does the same thing each time.

Happened to me and it was a combination of a bad ignition and then a bad fuel filter. But, you've replaced those so I'm not sure what to tell ya. Mabye another ignition? Check to see if the box is getting overly hot, if so that could be your problem.

Fuel pump and filter are possibilities too...

I think I found the problem. 4 fresh vacuum leaks and one of the two wires coming from the distributor was bare and shorting out agaisnt the block. Now is just runs like @ss and I have to re-time it. :D

I idnt read all the post above, to tire right now to heh. But sounds like one of three things to me.
Ignition module, magnetic pickup in distributer, or vapor lock.
