I restored the fuel return line on my 78 J10. Since then The temperatures around here have been in the 100°F to 110°F range. No vapor locks! Even running around town doing errands in the afternoon with the air on! I also have noticed that the truck doesn't diesel or run on after I shut her off. If you are running with out a fuel return line STOP and install one. You and your rig will be happier.

Do all 78's come stock with the return line? Just asking 'cause I'm installing the pro-jection when it gets here and haven't really looked to see if I have a functioning return line.

M1Garandfan:... I'm glad your J-10 is doing better. On a long three or four hour highway run it still might vapor lock. Always carry some water incase you need to cool the pump, lines or carburetor...

GlennTX--my 78 Cherokee has one, my 87 GW has one, now my 78 J10 has one. All three are running with stock fuel pumps.

Don S--Oh yea! I carry a 5 gallon bucket half full of water, one gallon of fuel (to refill the bowl) two squirt bottles and two syringes. I'm not taking any chances!

Did you follow the fuel line back or take a different, cooler route back to the tank?

I followed the same route as my 78 Cherokee which has never vapor locked. I have a switch which directs the returning fuel to the tank I am using at the time.

Guess that means you have more than one tank! :D

Yep, the aux holds a bunch, I'm running on it to see how much it holds. Plus when it's dry I need to drop it so I can change the rear shocks.

You are talking about the aux tank on the chero right?? What tank did you use?

The tank is on my J10. The P.O. had it installed. It came from southgate in S. Kalifornia from what I can tell. It's a big tank filling nearly the whole spare tire area and it held in place with four long bolts going through the tank.
