Are you sure it is not in Edrive? I guess the switch sender on the case could have shorted out, or the line could be crossed with something else.
You are positive everything is rigth, from switch to the vac motor?
I guess it could be stuck.
The switch that notes edrive on or off is on the top of the case, i think, and mine is wired with orange wire, if that helps you trace it.
Good luck,
Daniel

A quick check would be to pull the connector off at the transfer-case. If the light remains lit, then there is a short in the wire somewhere.
If the light goes out, then it's possible that the switch inside is stuck, but that's not very likely unless it's been sitting a LONG time or something is broken inside. That switch is only grounded when the actual mode fork has slid into the E-Drive position, so if that switch is causing the light to go on, it's very likely because that mode fork is engaging E-drive.

I'm sure it's not engaged. I can switch it on and turn on a paved surface and feel the wheels grab, then switch it off and it turns normally. Is it possible it's partly engaged? Bob, i'll try pulling the connector this weekend and see what happens.

It is either in or out, there is no partly engaged, if it were it would go bang!! As Bob has mentioned sounds like the E-Drive switch at T-Case is grounding out, or the wire from light to the switch is getting ground. The E-Drive light has power at it at all times, it only needs ground to light up, so all you have to do is find out where it is getting its ground from. Disconecting the E-Drive switch puts out the light would indicate that the switch on the T-Case is bad.
