View Full Version : Keeping the Dizzy Dry

When ever it rains I can't start the wag. 5 minutes drying out the gut of the distributor with a hair drier fixes it right up, but that's gets to be a pain. I've had luck spraying ScotchGuard on the plug wires, I'm thinking about it inside the dist. too. Anyone have any other ideas?

I've heard of guys drilling the cap and venting it(either with a hose and one way valve like on your diff, or a hose to a vacuum source?), then sealing the cap to dist with RTV.
There have been posts on here about it. I used to live in WA State and personally never had a problem with my Jeeps in the rain. I always used Accel caps.

Is your cap down tight enough? I havent gotten my points distributer wet yet and I have driven through some major rains.

It is possible to have a crack in the cap which can lead to condensation inside. If you have done the TFI upgrade, the new cap (at least mine does) already has a vent on top. Saving that, I always run a bead of dielectric grease around the base of the cap as well as keeping some in both ends of the plug wires. I've used a high pressure washer on the engine and have not had a problem getting started.

I was looking at it this lunchtime, and it has a vent hole going right out the bottom. Do you guys seal this up?

Had a similar problem. Dielectric grease on all connections of cap and wires as well as around where cap contacts distributor. Try also a rubber cover from a ford 302 Grand Marquis or similar motor. If that doesn't work, screw the haird dryer and use wire dryer, works awesome.

I keep a can of wire drier in the back, but the other day it didn't work for me. It was real humid, maybe that had something to do with it.
