Yes, I have done a search, and have not heard from anyone that has actually driven a rig that they have done a shackle reversal on.

I was looking under my buddies chebby the other day, and apparently all chebbies that are leaf sprung have the shackles in the back. It would seem to me if the general put that many trucks on the road that way, then it can't be all that bad.

Here's why i'm contemplating it. I did a soa up front with a shackle flip, 4" blocks, and a helper leaf in the rear, and I've got 2" of rake...to much for my taste. I welded my perches on with the pinion pointing directly at the t-case, so I've been told that my caster will be whacked.

If I just move the front shackle to the rear of the front leaf springs, will that lower my pinion angle, and give me the extra height I need? I already have to lengthen my front driveshaft, so that is not really an issue. It seems like it would be fairly simple and straight forward to do...3 bolts per spring.

I know about the chebby shackle, and I have a line on a set, but then I still might have to shim the front axle to get the pinion back down. Somebody please shed some light on this for me.

Nope, I haven't done it. But I bet if you search around www.pirate4x4.com (http://www.pirate4x4.com) for a while you'll find answers to most of your questions, lots of folks over there have done sr's.

For anyone interested, I found this, and I think that it answered all my questions. Guess i'll find out on my own huh?

Without seeing for my very own eyes, I can't really give you any advice. It sounds like it'll work, but yes, you may still have to shim. And there is always that thing about doing it and being too high in the front then. smile.gif

There used to be a tech article at the Colorado FSJ site on the conversion, but I have not seen it in a while. The conversion also resulted in several inches of lift.

i did one on my j-10. i used a m.o.r.e. kit for a cj and modified it quite a bit. it did put the pinion a couple degrees lower/added about 3/4" lift. if i had to do it over again(which i will, on my buddies waggie) id make my own brakets/ use chvy stuff. also will definitely need longer ds. i actually moved my axle forward a couple inches for better approach angle.

My 78 wt has the front shackles in the rear. I thought it came that way from the factory. The brackets are riveted and welded.
