This one should be real easy:
What is the 2-pronged connector that plugs in just above the sight glass and into the air conditioning lines on the passenger-side fenderwell?
Just found it today on my '88 GW and it is unplugged.

In the liquid line there is a high pressure cutout. A lot of other vehicles makes have a low pressure cutout in the suction line but I haven't seen any in our Jeeps. If the head pressure in the liquid line gets too high due to a blocked condensor coil or too much freon or maybe an expansion valve not operating correctly, a safety feature cuts the circuit to the compressor, thus disengaging the clutch. A lot of systems are destroyed due to excessive temperatures and pressures. You might want to check into why it is unpluged. This could save an expense later on. Since we are expecting high heat factors this Summer, it would be a good idea for everyone to check their systems, and start a good post.

^ He’s right..
The reason is, is when Chrysler gained control of jeep they did away with the York compressor (I think on most or all of them) the York system was a straight forward system, others have all these weird connections and thingys...

I have that on my 88 and it's unplugged too. The A/C works great, so should I leave it unplugged?

You might want to connect reconnect it to see if your system shuts down while it's plugged in. This will tell you if you need to go over your system. The York was a very heavy duty compressor which you could rebuild. It also took up a lot of space under the hood. You'll find those on your older jeeps, '81,'82 and etc. They are very good compressors, the ones that are made now, are considered disposable but can be rebuilt. Lighter duty in comparison.
There's a reason for that little thingy and mostly to save your system from self-destucting, which will or at least might happen if left unplugged.

It's on my 84 (plugged in) and I have a York.
My A/C works like a charm.
