As far as the read axle, I got a D60 from the rear of a 1974-1979 Dodge truck/Power Wagon, and didnt have to change anything!. The spring perches were 1/8 wider (no problem, it is a spring over like yours, and the driveshaft uses the same u-joint, so it was a bolt in. The ony diferences were the shock mount, you can use the mounts that come off the Dodge axle mounting , or weld some new mounts on the 3 in. tube, and lastly, drill and tap a new 1/4 hole for the brake line junction block on top of the housing.

A 1979 Ford f350 dana 60 will bolt in as a front spring over axle. 69" wide though which is a little wider than you have now. The Ford's have the Diff on the drivers side where you need it. You wull have to lift the rear six inches to level things out.

only prollem with that is that youre commited to aluminum chain drive xfer cases. if you want to keep a auto you can swap in a d300,or if you want a manual tranny swap in an older t18/d20. with the passenger side drop you will be able to use any solid axle chebby for parts. smile.gif the 14 bolt is more work to install(hafta move perches),but they are plentiful and real strong. the d60 and 70 are good rear choices as well, not as common as the 14 bolt, but still plentiful in 2wd and 4wd dodge and ford trucks and vans.most d60s,tho,have the same size axleshafts as a 44(30 spline,1.31 inches) depends oh how big a deal that is to you. 70 will have 1.5" 35 splines, and 14 bolt 1.5" 30 splines. with the 70 youll get a stronger diff, and a slightly bigger ring gear, but you only have a couple traction options: powerloc, detroit and lincoln locked. there are lots of traction devices available for the 60. with the 14 bolt you have detroit, gov lok,or lincoln locked.

maybe alitte more info than you asked for,but hope it helps smile.gif a broad spectrum of things can fall under the category of "3/4 ton" ;)

I run te ford D-60 in the front out of a 79 F-250 snow bird edition. Bolted right in with the spring over. In the rear I used a 14 bolt Chevy out of a 3/4 76 model. The perches were within 1" over all width so I just pinched my rear springs a little. With the H**L that I give my truck I wouldn't settle for less.

hey rockwagon
how are you running 15 inch wheels with a ford dana 60 front axle?from what ive seen fords have the largest calipers and caliper brackets and look almost impossible to machind down enough to fit inside 15 inch wheels.do you have any pix of it?

hmmmmm. maybe i need to measure mine again.its been awhile, but i thot i remembered mine being about 1 3/4" difference, wich was alittle more than i wanted to pinch the springs smile.gif also, mine is supposed to be out of an 80 2wd truck,so maybe that makes a difference?

very sadly thats the main reason hes not in yet,ive been lazy to grind em off and go thru the work of getting them in the right spots, pinion angle correct, etc. redface.gif will hopefully get enuff other stuff done that ill have time to spend on it and get it swapped in in a couple of weeks.

so yours more or less bolted in with some spring persuasion? hmmmm...

What wheels do you run if you swap in the Fords? 250's and 350's are usually like 8 lug 16.5's aren't they?

I am running 15x8 with 3" back spacing and mucho grinding on the caliper brackets. I don't have a digital camera so no picks at this time I am working on it though. I have a bunch of general pick that I need to take to a buddy and scann in and i have a role in my camera that I have taking some more detialed pick on

PS.. The 15X8's are tearing my swampers up on the street but I could not find any 15x10 with 3" backspacing. I don't think I could grind any more. At least running that narrow of a rim keeps them from rolling off the rim on the trial. I only run about 6 psi on the trial and never lost one yet. ( just cused my self didn't I?) eventuly I plan to run modified Hummer rims.
