Any plans on fabricating one of those sharp looking roof racks? If not, put my name on the list! If so, let me know...Roy

IIRC, the list is full, and no more will be produced this year beyond that list....but there is a backup list. Btw, when you do get one of these racks, you'll LOVE IT!

Roy,
Thanks for the compliment on the roof racks.
Plans/Blueprints:
They exist in the form of CNC CAD files, cut lists and fabrication directions. Many members asked for the design plans back in August. I actually have very little to say about who can have them. The student members of our chapter of The American Welding Society call he shots. Last August they voted not to distribute the plans. There will be a new membership in charge next August and I will ask them to consider this option again at that point.
Getting On The List:
The list for this school year (02-03) filled up in about 3 weeks last August. The back up list/start up list for next year (03-04) just went past 20 members. I had to close it at that point. We can't make promises for a point in time so far away.
What's Going To Happen
I am really not sure. After we finish this school year, then deal with the 20 members on the back up/start up list, we may just go to a system where we build 2 and then email folks who have expressed interest. Having a permanent schedule as we have done this year, really puts a lot of strain on the students and limits our ability to do other things.
Sorry this was such a long response Roy but I felt others might want a real thorough explanation of how the system is working.

Tad,

I appreciate all that info; it just seems I got my Chero a bit to late to compliment it with your product. I am going on an extensive "expedition," if you will, to my family's ranch in Montana this summer. It will be "Blueduck's" first trek, and going the ole 79 through the Yellowstone. With the lil lady, dog, and all the gear I take when I go camping and wheeling for up to 3 weeks, needless to say, I am in dire need of a sturdy set of racks to clear up some compartment space. Please, put me down on that back-up list and I will definitely follow through in order to be prepared for this trip.
Cheers,
Roy

oddfire...thanks for that reference. it looks like you have to acquire all the additional mounting hardware yourself. how did you mount yours?

I got a 2 track mount from I think roofracks u.s.a. Two 5 ft. tracks that screw trough the roof. I dont have a headliner so no problem there.
The I got some Yakima crossbars and towers from ebay and used u-bolts to mount the rack to the crossbars.I have really loaded this sucker up. Probly close to 200 lbs, plus my 150 standing on it, and I can tell you it has held up very well, loaded up and offroad................phil

Please understand we are a high school welding club, not a business.
Watch for the revision post in late May.

:D Dang! I'm really glad I got to get in on this event! I'll bet the welding club is putting my donation to good use! I am checking my e-mail about every 5-10 minutes to get the word that it is on the way!
Thanks Tad!
