Hi folks -
I'm presently re-installing a NP229 onto my 86 GW (was NP228), tf727.

Assume nothing is marked (ie: yolks-even when yolks were replaced on t-case) (i know, this was a mistake), linkage is pulled off, t-case is in, but not drivelines and linkage, all wheels off the ground.

Which is most important to install first? Linkage, drivelines, which driveline? How do I ensure it all lines up? Do I do it in 2WD? How do I ensure the t-case is in 2WD? Not sure what the linkage looks like in 2WD or 4WD.

I guess I pretty much need step-by-step help with this process.

Thanks for a prompt reply, running out of light (wife running out of patience...)

Well if your pressed for time/sunlight. I would hook up the driveshafts first. Since the case is already in.

If you run out of light you can always slip it into 2 wheel drive and its driveable.

As far as where the linkage goes..

Put the lever all the way down where it would be if it were in 2wheel high.. this should hook right back up to your linkage on the case..

Is the linkage all dissasembled?? or back like it was when it came out?/

I wouldnt worry about marking where the yolks went on the shafts.. shouldnt matter.
I really doubt they ever balance that stuff.. its just casted symetrical and probably balanced once when they manufacture it ( grind off a little here little there).

Oh by the way, 2 wheel drive is the mode lever forward.

So counterclockwise if you were looking at the case from the driver side.

Cant remember off hand which way the big one moves (my old 229 isnt here its at my buddies shop).

But the big one (range) Im gonna guess is in high range when its also counterclockwise.
