ok, One of the belts broke on my 87 GW, the belt the got caught in with the other belts causing the all to break.
I have replacement belts, but for the life of me I haven't been able to figure out how the belts fit on which pullies. Does anyone have a diagram or photothat I can use for reference. Advice is also welcome.
I don't think it caused any other damage but that still has yet to be seen.

Hrm, for me my alt goes around the main pully and the water pump. Then my PS pump goes around the main pully and the water pump. Smog pump used to come off the PS pump to itself. Not sure about any A/C hook ups as my rig never had it ;p

Thanks for the info, I do have A/C, I guess I'll see if I can figure it out. It's pouring rain at the moment so I'm not all that eager to go outside. smile.gif

Ok, I thought I had it figured out, but apparently not, I think I have the ps side figured out, but the other side still has me a little lost.
I am wondering if I got the correct belts from the auto parts store.
Anyone have a similiar year? A/C etc..

Andrew:
No photo or scanner but I can describe what is in the service manual for years 84-87. :D
This is for an 8 cyl with alternator, air pump, a/c and power steering configuration:
1. The air pump is driven from the rear belt slot on the pulley on the power steering pump.
2. Two belts on the two rear slots of the pulleys drive the alternator, A/C compressor; drive pulley, and water pump.
3. The front slot of the pulley of the water pump and drive pulley (crank shaft) drive the front pulley on the power steering pump.
Some GWs may have only one belt for the alternator and A/C.
If your configuration is different let me know. I have 4 configurations for V8s in the manual.
Hope this helps smile.gif

Thank you, that was what I supspected, but then Checker Auto sold me the incorrect belts. (Had to trust their opinion. Now that I know that, the rest is a piece of cake. (It's very confusing trying to figure out how to install the incorrect belts smile.gif
glad you've got it figured out. remember....never trust a counter guy.......
