The question is about my Eagle kickdown linkage. Is it the same as a 258 Wag? My throttle linkage is from an 81 eagle and when the pedal is pushed it pivots pushing toward the 998 tranny. I cannot find an image and neither of my manuals has a diagram or adjustment procedure for the kickdown on the 258/998 combo. I looked at the tech page article on this but cannot see the image clearly. I would expect the procedure to be the same as my Wag's 727 but can't be sure. I have been searching on the net for days but have had no luck. Any help will be appreciated so I can do it right.

Ok, yes it shoul dbe almost identical to a 258 Wag kickdown setup. If you still need more clarification, I can snap a pic of one of my Eagles.

Well I am not certain if this right but here is what I did tonight. Because the 80 and 81, the replacement engine is from an 81, have different linkage assemblies I had to shorten the kick down linkage about 4". Once this was done I locked the throttle wide open and pushed the linkage as far as it would go toward the tranny and slid the trombone thingy tight up to the carb linkage. When I released the throttle the kick down rod returned forward. There is no play between the linkage and kick down rod and when I open the throttle wide the lever on the tranny is as far back as it can go. I also thought there was supposed to be a spring on the kick down rod to pull it forward. I have lots of springs but I cannot see how I would install one properly.
