I have a 1984 J10 and would like to know what swaping the springs from a 1978 J20 would do? They will fit wont they? If so would it lift the J10 any? would it Increase payload capacity?
Thanks

Welcome aboard! Nice to see another Oregon member. They should fit and you might get a little lift. No "real" increase in paylaod as that is really based as far as I know on the axle size. The J20 had a D-60 in the rear and a heavier duty D-44 in the front. If you are looking for increased payload, swap in a set of heavier duty axles. I also would not swap in a set of 30 year old springs into my truck unless it was an emergency. If they have been flattened wore out by years of use, your truck would be in for a rough ride. If you are looking for some lift, do a search for "lift" and "lifts" and you will get more info than you can digest!

Well, you will get extra payload capacity because you are swapping in much stronger springs. The trouble is, you don't have axles that can support the wieght the new springs can carry.
So, what you are getting is: the stiff ride without the carrying capacity.

J4000, Welcome, I just did this swap. The springs will fit. I went from a 83 J20 to a 78 J10. I had the axles also, so i swapped them in also. Do you still have the axles?
