ok the other day i hit a speed bump and the ac cut out. I replaced the fan fuse but could only get a low speed when blowing. I took the control out of the dash and the plug to the speed control,( the plug all the way to the left). there were two sets of prongs both five prong and the plug was plugged into the one on the inside. Does that make any sense? one of the five prongs (for some reason it had a little "t" engraved on it) had melted the plug where it plugged in. So i plugged it into the other five prong, and still no change in speed. I unplugged it completely and it would blow but no change. So if i'm right i either have to replace the bad five prong or the plug, right??? And why is there two identical five prongs??? if theres only one plug?? I hope you all can understand this???????Oh and i say 3 wagoneers today, a nice one with a lift on the otherside of abercorn st., an 83 with faded woodgrain down by wormslow, and an older 70's one (before the woodgrain) down by the savannah mall.

One other thing i forgot about, My haynes manual said to check the ac resistor behind the duct, but when i dropped the duct the prongs were there butt no sign of any plug???? what's up with that???

I'm not sure what plug your talking about but I sure wouldn't just be replacing it without finding out why it melted in the first place. It sounds like you mighta got a dead short in there somewhere. Maybe when you hit the bump a wire got pinched or grounded out thereby making your plug melt and blowing the fuse.

It sounds like you fried the resistive divider that controls the speed of the fan motor. Jeep controls the speed of the fan with a string of resistors to change the applied voltage to the motor there by controling the speed of the motor. The thing comes in a single package, with multiple plugs. There is also a thermal fuse in the package to. If it is blown, book says replace the assembly they also say the the one for the heater motor is the same device. Probably the only source is the dealer. Can you say expensive? :(
The resistor for the a/c is the same as the one for the heater. You can swap them to find out if you have a defective one. Easy to remove.. Only 2 screws. Not too badly priced. I think it was under twenty bucks.

I'll have to yeald to Rex's experience and expertise here, fortunately I have never had any problem with mine. 20 bucks ain't so bad.

crazy thing is that i sent it in for a new radiator and when i got it back the ac problem was fixed, Bonus!!! With work and a lot of rain i haven't had the chance to pull the dash apart to see what the mechanic did. Thanks for all the advice, if nothing else i learned something new.....AL
