Ok I am in need of a new carb, for the amt that it will cost should I do a reman 2150 or the 1406. I have been getting a run-a-round from people about fixing this carb.

A good rebuild kit for the Motorcraft 2150 should run you about $40. The Edelbrock Performer Series 1406 will require you to change your intake manifold, and it does not have ports for either the warm air choke or evaporative cannister, so it cannot utilize your vehicle's original emissions equipment; for that you would need an Edelbrock 1400 or the identical Carter AFB 9635.
Technically, any 4-bbl carb would not be smog legal unless there was a 4-bbl carb option available in your particular model year. But if your ignition system, cat conveter, EGR valve, AIR (smog pump and tubes) system, and EVAP (charcoal cannister) system are all working properly, the carb is the least among most inspectors' concerns.

So can I use the 1400 with the 3731 intake? Will it realy make a noticable diff in the engine performance?

I remember when I put my 1405{manual choke 600cfm} on a 2131{non egr amc} it made a HUGE difference. I got this steep hill thats about 1 mile long by my house and the old wag would just chug up it about 30 mph, first thing I did after the swap was run it up that hill and it flew, the tranny kicked down and I was still accelerating at the top at about 60 mph. good mod for the $$$.......phil
