The previous owner of my 86GW must have smoked like a coal train. Any suggestions on how to remove the smoke odor from the interior?? Do they sell baking soda in 50lb. bags?
Try Febreze from the super market. Works good on cloth as on sofas etc. Should work for your carpets and headliner anyway.

The way i was able to remove the smell was with some good carpet cleaning shampoo. I suds up the carpet, scrubbed liberally with a scrub brush and sucked it up with a carpet cleaner. Do at least two times.

I used to clean a bar, and one day I was washing the walls, and a little old lady came in to have a drink. She told me to use Murphy's oil soap. The next time I cleaned the walls the paneling went from dark brown to a light pine and I did not have to scrub real hard, it also made the hole place smelled better.

Febreeze worked on mine. I did a entire bottle when I got it and then another about a month later and it went away. Now it just smells like mildew when it is wet outside.

Try to find someone with an Ozone machine, we use them to get rid of smells in cars and it really works.
A/C guys use them for houses with mildew odor, they sometimes lend them out (helps to know someone). We make a template of the front window with cardboard and cut a hole in it for the hose, close all other windows and vents, turn on the machine for an hour or so and PRESTO...the smell is gone!!

I used to be a detailer, and I can honestly say that all the febreeze in the world won't remove the ground up ashes out of your carpets and seats (sorry guys). Use the deoderizer stuff, but also vacuum that sucker like your inlaws are coming to visit.
If that still doesn't do it, go the shampoo route. Or even better, use a dilluted mix of Mr. Clean detergent. One application of the soap and then two applications of rinse -- use a wet vac after each step. Then park your car in the sun all day long with the windows open to really let it dry.

Yes, you have to clean, and be carefull with the headliner. IF you only use another oderizer, your rig will end up smelling like a car de-oderizer advertisement. However, if you do steam-clean the carpets, seats and headliner, then wipe down EVERY surface, it will almost completly remove the offending particles of tobacco smoke. Almost because the heater vents and AC are likely full of it too.....
Thats why I like chew. The only thing you have to do is clean the drivers sides door once in awhile...
