I finally got my engine in and running. I fabricated the whole exhaust: 3" piping all the way with flowmaster 50. Sounds good( a little louder than I thought)I now have about 60lb. oil pressure and 20 at idle. I am now wrestling with the new truck avenger carb. It falls flat above idle. I'm at 4500 feet altitude and I'm only pulling 8" of vacuum. The TA 212 camshaft has a bit of overlap and is probably contributing to this. This affects the power valve in the new carb. so I spoke with Holley mfr. and I have some smaller jets and power valve coming as per their recommendation. Now my brakes suck. Fix one problem and it opens up new ones. Any feed-back on solving the brake problem? I was told that some mid-80 cars had a vacuum pump from factory. What do you guys think? I've spent enough money so I really don't want to buy a new aftermarket pump: $300. +. I'll let you know future results. thanks.

The brake problem is because you have no vacuum. I only put cams with overlap into vehicles that dont have any vacuum operated accessories, including brakes.

You can just get a big vacuum resevoir, which can help a lot, which newer vehicles have. There is the hydro-boost brake setup, which I personally dislike because I dont like to have my brakes rely on other systems to work. With hydroboost if the power steering pump dies, engines dies, line breaks, or belt breaks the brakes dont work for the most part. I like my manual brakes.

Kid, I sent you a PM back too but agree that the lack of vacuum is probably cam related. I had a vac resevoir on my 69 Mustang and know some of the bigger Fords of that era had 'em too, might be worth a look. Also I think Summit has vac resevoires for cars with race motors that may help.
Post some pics of that engine too. smile.gif

HI, YOU CAN BUY A VACUUM PUMP FROM JEGS OR SUMMIT TO REMEDY YOUR PROBLEM. GOOD LUCK, JOHN
