Guys:

Please help. Have located another 258 motor for my 79 J-10. Motor runs good. Seller wants $150.00 for it. He also said the ring gear on the flywheel probably need replacing.

Is this a good price? Also what the heck is the ring gear, and is this an expensive problem.

If it is in a good running condition, I think it is a fair price. Ring gear on the flywheel is not a big deal. If your rig has an automatic transmission in it then you would not even use the flywheel, you would remove it, and replace it with a Flexplate. If you have a standard transmission you can use your flywheel if it is in good shape, if not a ring gear and its installation is not a big $$$$ job. ;)

Thank you. My truck has a manual tranny. Started looking thru parts catalogs. Looks like the ring gear will run me about $17.00.
