I had a problem with my tranny last week, and am wondering the best way to fix it. The Reverse indicator plug popped out of the case and poured out all my freshly purchased Lucas treatment and the rest of the fluid. Anyway, one of the prongs is broken, and it seems like a plastic piece of crap from the drawing board. So, is there a better option other than calling the dealer for the OEM for this thing? It just looks like something that will fail again.

One of the local transmission shops is telling me this is the kick down lead... I didn't realize a '79 J/10 had electronic anything. Is this guy right?

Rhamby, Nothing electronic about that. It is the passing gear/kickdown terminal. When 12v is applied to it via the passing gear switch under your gas pedal it sends 12v to a solenoid switch inside the tranny causing it to go into 2nd gear.
