I'm really tired of running out of gas. Where should I start when fixing my fuel gauge? It was fine until I swapped the engine, then it stopped working and shows "E" all the time.
I'm easily confused when it comes to electrical stuff like this. :(

check for broken wires starting at the sender and working to the guage. my problems always come from either the sender or the connections. iirc, the guage is powered all the time with the key in run position. the sending unit provides a ground. 0 ohms (dead short) should peg the needle on full. this should prove out the wiring

Yea, just disconect the wire going into the tank and ground it with the key on. It should go all the way to full. If so, than it's the sender. Just replaced mine. The float part was completely rusted off and the tube was so full off gunk, when I punched the gas pedal, it would stall out from lack of fuel. The sending unit is very hard to find for our years truck. Almost had to replace the tank too. Cause they dont make the side mounted unit anymore. Does you sending unit go in the side of the tank, near the top and behind the driver seat? If so, I do have the exact part # if you need it. Dennis
