most everybody talks about when you put on larger tires you need lower gears, and thats it. but doesnt the torque of the engine and where the rpm range of the torque make a difference? is there any calculations to find out what gear ratio would be needed to if you happen to know your torque output?

any info is appreciated.

You would need to know what RPM Range peak Torque is achieved. This Calculator gives the average RPM operating range for big block small block and others
RPM CALCULATOR (http://www.ring-pinion.com/c-rpm.html)
