What do you do to disable or remove the EGR on the 360 engine?

The simplest way to disable it is to disconnect and cap the vacuum line that actuates the egr valve. Your air/fuel mixture may be affected in some ranges of operation since the stock carb is setup to be used with a functioning egr. In addition to a possible lean condition you may end up with pre-ignition and detonation or 'pinging' problems.

Wesdog is correct about the possible occurance of detonation. The EGR valve introduces a small amount of exhaust gas into the intake to cool of the cylinder temp. It does not affect idle or full throttle only part throttle and cruise. I would leave it alone as it will not hurt your performance but it could adversly affect your drivability.

Ideally, if you are going to disconnect the EGR valve you should back off the vaccum advance on your distributor. An air/fuel mixture diluted with exhaust gas takes a little longer to start burning so engines equipped with EGR have a little more spark advance to account for this. If you have the Motorcraft distributor the vaccum advance is adjustable to backing off the timing should be easy. If you have the points type Delco unit ('74 and earlier) you buy an adjustable vaccum advance. If you have the Pertronix unit you need a new distributor. The above being said, plenty of people disconnect the EGR and run the stock distributor with no problems, except they usually need 89 octane gas.

In the past I've decreased the amount of vacuum advance on the Pertronix distributor by drilling out the rivets to open the advance module, placing a washer behind the spring inside and putting it back together with some small screws instead of rivets.
