I am trying to figure out what voltage is suppose to be at the wire for the carb when the truck is on. I am getting 13.8 volts w/ the truck running. 1980 J10 w/ a 79 motorcraft carb. When it was on the 79 wag, I would press the petal to the floor once, and start the truck, the ideling would go to 1800rpmish. After about 10 seconds, I would tap the petal and it woudl drop the rpms to 1600 and remain there until the truck was warm.
Now installed on my 80 J10 360, I press the petal to the floor once, and release, turn the key and start the truck, it shoots to 1800rpm like before. After 10 seconds, i tap the throttle and it drops to an idle. It will stay at the idle then for the rest of the time. The truck doesn't stall or anything, but I thought the RPM's were suppose to stay elevated for the first like 3-5 minutes. Oh yeah starting is in 30 degree weather. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I had the same problem w/ my holley and when I contacted holley they said that their 4412 carb w/ electric choke wasn't suppose to have 12 volts to it( so they recomended a resistor for in the line at a cost of $70.00) Maybe there is a difference between the 79 and the 80? Im a confused. Thank you Craig
