how hard is it to convert to a manual window crank from the electric one? what parts would you need to get it to work?
I think bjsoffroad.com (http://bjsoffroad.com) sells them.

I did mine a while back...but mine had been a elec before and had been converted to hand crank...so I just went back to what it orig had...However that being the case...A trip to the junkyard...I needed a elec regulator and motor...a wiring harness from an existing elec system...the elec door switch and lock mechanism for the outside (and the key...you cant fit your crank cylinder into the elec mecanism...it has the wrong tail piece on it :( )...a tailgate safety switch...you will also need a wiring diag and a switch for da dash..I think thats it..but others will jump in too...Regards

I think I have read that you need all the internals off the tailgate like the regulator, brackets, shaft, handle, etc... I believe the glass is the only thing that is the same but I could be wrong

I beleive the only differances are the regulator (and even the electric ones have the
holes punched where the manual crank gear would mount) and crank handle, the
glass, regulator track ... is all the same. I have been thinking about the manual setup
and have gathered the parts but the big deterant is that the factory crank was known
to not be all that great and the after market one (Crown) has a crappy rep as well.
It may be that bad rep is due to age (factory) or poor install (Crown) but if you
go manual may darn sure the tracks are all in alignment and the glass moves without
any binding or you will strip the splines out of the crank handle, on either setup.

My Cherokee has a manual crank which is broke. So I'm walking the fence and don't know if I will keep it or go electric. I have two electric tailgates so swapping to electric would be easy.
I am curious if running wire direct from the battery to the tailgate, twice the size of the stock hot wire would help...any thoughts?

That's how I fixed mine in the end. I ran 10 awg wire directly from the electric motor to the front switch. No more problems. Of course you have to make sure you only operate the front switch when the tailgate is up, but then there is no power to the front switch unless the key is on.

im missing the front switch and i have only a key that works in the ignition, not the doors or tailgate, so i was thinking manual would be easier than the alternative, i think i need a new tailgate motor anyway, i got into the tailgate the other day and tried to use an extra car battery to run the motor to get the glass up, no deal, comes down though,,,,,
