Okay recently at the yahoo FSJ message board we were talking about fliping the rear shocks after lifting, so that the rod is down. This so you can retain the original axle shock mounts and not bind into the axle when you have an increased angle after lifting...
First is this even an issue
and
Second is it true that some shocks can't be flipped due to them being only able to dampain on compression....
What have you all done after lifting?
Thanks for any advice

I think thats dependant on the shock. When I put my Rustys lift on, I put all my shocks on rod down for that same reason, but later found out that (even though it was not specified in the install instructions), Rusty says his shocks need to be installed rod up. So I flipped em all over.

I installed my rusty's rod up....do not ask me why but it made sense at the time.
It can make a difference, but I would say it's minimal. My understanding is that when the shock is flipped upside down it gains a small dead spot when the shock first starts to compress.. I suppose that there is a small amount of air in the shock, and that's what causes the dead spot. Just speculation though. Try it out, see what happens, if it doesn't work, change it. smile.gif

Nitrogen charged shocks can be installed upside down but oil filled can not because the oil drains with gravity!!
