View Full Version : Tranny Vac. Modulator

I have tried all of the parts stores (Napa, Autozone, Pepboys, Checker, etc...) None of these stores have the right vacuum modulator. On my 78 it has a little metal spring or something that inserts into the bottom of the modulator and goes into the tranny. None of the listed replacements has this and without it none of the new mods will work. The little spring (or whatever it is called) won't fit into any of the replacements either. My stock mod does not have the allen wrench adjuster inside it and I would like to have this adjustment capability.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Chris

I found this out the hard way myself. The best way to do it is to go to the junkyard or a tranny shop and get the shifter rod that goes behind the vac mod for a Cheby TH400, it is shorter than the stock. Then you can get a smaller mod with the adjuster. You will not have the elbow off the tranny anymore so there may be a clearance problem without a lift.

I am going throught the same problem right know... my driveshaft broke the elbow and we can not find on anywhere...

I am going to use the Chevy TH400 modulator and rerun the exhaust, that seems to be the clearance issue, and a lift does not clear that up. The Tranny shop is working on it as I type this... I hope the exhaust is the only issue, that is not a big deal, and know I won't ever have a problem finding a modulator...
