Stumbles/hesitates during acceleration...

Picked up our new '89 G/W yesterday afternoon and drove it back home 120 miles. Runs great at highway speeds, but several times it stumbled while accelerating from a stop. Not sure of recent maintenance.

Where should I start?

Welcome to the board! Start with the basics- tune up, carb adjustment and timing and see what happens from there.

Had this same problem on my 90GW. Just had my carb. rebuilt last week. Kit $47.00 It does great now. Great cold start's and does not stumble are die during takeoff from stop. However I now have a new problem. It run great down the road and at an idle. But if at a stop sign with foot on the break it seems to idle a little ruff. I think I still need some carb. adjustments. Im going to take mine back to the shop Monday. I did make a world of difference. Great pick up no pinging ect.ect.

When we bought our 88 Wag 2 years ago, we had the same problem. The carb was messed up and the timing was way off. It hadn't had a tune up in years. Start with the basics. Replace all filters and fluids. Do a complete tune up and have some who knows what they are doing look over the carb. Also, My recomendation is to buy good high quaility parts. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!

When you get the tune-up, make sure they check vacuum advance on the distributor.
