Im at my wits end trying to figure out the noise coming from my front end.
Is there anyone around the Berdo, Riverside Calif area who can tell me what is going on? I can drive to where I have to go just so that someone can diagnose my problem? I'll even bring my own tools..lol. I'll do the work, just tell me what to do. It has to do with the dreaded 229 and vacuum axel.

Mario

PS....I'll buy the beer

Easiest answer is to manually put it into 4wd (engage the axle, and wire it so it stays that way), remove the little pin on the bottom of the 4wd - 2wd switch, then you'll have shift on the fly 4wd.

If you where closer I would say bring it on by. But there are several FSJ'ers in your area. You may want to check them out.

Before you get too far into it, are you sure it's the trans case or the diff?? Crawl under (watch out for dripping fluids :D ) and grab the front drive shaft and move it around, if it moves a bunch or goes clunk clunk it could be your front cv joint on the front driveshaft, not all that uncommon in the 100k to 150k mile range.
