Well, I started the upgrade last week (doing it alittle at a time....it gets cold outside)I did the cap adapt, cap, wires. Now I have the blaster ss coil mounted but I need to know if I should use the factory resistor wire to supply the coil(gives it about 6.5 volts w/ ignition on) or if I shoudl supply it w/ a constant 12 volts. I have heard rumors that if you supply it w/ 12 volts that it puts too much strain on the ignition module through the trigger wire/mechanism???? Which in time would cause the module to burn up. Now when the truck is running I have like 11 volts to the coil (6.5 when just the ignition is on but the motor is not running). I am going to be doing the MSD6al upgrade but i don't want to burn out the ignition module until then. I tried to look on the MSD website for requirments for the Blaster ss coil but it didn't give me an input voltage. I know the MSD ignition modules are rated from 9 volts all the way to 18. But nadda on the coil requirements. Any help woudl be appreciated.

Oh yeah and i did notice a huge differencealready w/ just the 3 things done already. I can't wait till the coil and module are done. This thing should be like a new truck.

Thank you Craig

If you have 11 volts running then leave the resistor wire in place.

There are two different ignition for Wags. I can't remember what all the specs are. But I think 84 and newer use one module and older wags use another. Both have different voltage out puts. I sure hope someone else chimes in the set the record straight.

Hmmmmm. Your setup is different than mine, but my"test"will work for you as well as it worked for me.

WITHOUT the resistor to my coil and module, the module, after running for 20 minutes or so,was way too hot to the touch for my liking.

WITH the resistor it feels fine.

Junkyard modules are cheap. You could experiment and let me know.

well, the way mine is I have full voltage w/ the ignition on (engine off) going to the ignition module but have 6.5 volts to the coil. Then when I start the truck (it is an 80 J10) the ignition module still gets full voltage and the coil goes to 11 volts. Thank you Craig
