Gary
I'd have to guess the factory used bolts to mount it.

MY 88GW IS FACTORY AND IT HAS A HOLE IN IT FOR THE SPARE TIRE CARRIER BOLT TO GO THROUGH, I THINK A LOT OF THE AFTERMARKET HITCHES DID NOT HAVE THIS PROVISION. OTHER THAN THAT I WOULD THINK MAYBE YOU COULD FIND SOME KIND OF BRAND MARKING ON IT, MINE STILL HAS MOST OF THE BLACK PAINT AND A STICKER THAT SAYS JEEP.

Rust is not an indicator of an aftermarket hitch; my '88's factory hitch is as rusty as anything.
The factory setup used an L-shaped brace inside the rear framerail, with two bolts to the side of the channel, and one bolt going down through a spacer and the bottom channel into the hitch. If your truck has this brace, it may have come with the factory hitch.

Are you talking about a class III hitch? because the light duty hitch does not mount the same way, it is just angle iron bolted the the frame in 4 places. The Class III does mount differently, mine is after market for sure so what it looks like wouldn't help you much. I would imagine if it is factory it will have Jeep stamped on it some where. I still have the original and just went and looked and it has Jeep and AMC logo stamped on it, on the bar where the ball mounts, on a Class III it is probably in a different location. ;)
