Ok, refresh my memory. If the timing is too far advanced the motor will ping, if too far retarded it runs hot, is this correct? The PO has this thing all messed up.

All i know is my was to far retared and it ran hot.

That is my understanding as well. Advance will ping (pre-ignite) retard will heat.
