How strong is a 208 T-case??? I am looking at putting a strong engine in my wag and I like to abuse things.

well.. considering GM put them behind the 6.2L diesel in the 84 CUCV with 14FF/D60 and 4.56's... its stout for a chain case....

AMC also used them as a reduction box in the 2WD aircraft tug CJ-10A's. They decided they had a need to build them tough with a D70 axle and figured the 208 was tough enough also and as it turned out they seem to have been correct.

I like them. They got a good low range of about 2.6:1. I just pulled mine out though and and replacing it with t18/d20 combo. :D :( :D

One of the first things I did with my 208 was pull a 5200# International Travelall over 3 miles through the sand at Pismo to the first entry gate. I've blown a 229 and the 228 after it. The 208 is absolutely great and shifts better than any transfer case I've ever been around.
