I would have thought with what the averadge gas mileadge of an FSJ is that someone would have put a fuel injection kit on their FSJ, but i have never seen one or heard of anyone doing so,...I wonder why?? is it that their isnt one made yet that will work effectively for the FSJ?? or are they outragousely costly?? i have heard that their are kits that can be bought that work with a throttle body type setup but have never researched it myself. Or maybe there's some adverse downside that goes along with a setup like this? Well, as alway's when i have a FSJ question i go to the experts. i am verry interested in seeing whst the responces will be.......AL

i'm about through (It now has a bad regulator
)with the holley projection (TBI throttle body injection)...
gas milage is marginal(13-15)....
but the accelleration IS UNBELIEVABLE!!
the above statement leads to the marginal gas milage , i can't keep my foot out of it it is too much fun.....
TPIGUY-makes custom TBI's for our jeeps $800 but well worth it Ive heard, because of the support and quality....[www.customefis.com]
jeep tbi's (http://www.customefis.com/jeepgwfi.html)
i bought mine off of ebay(used) for $180 for the kit...
and i've put about 160 in new parts(fuel line, gauges, senders fuel pump...etc)
do some searching there's a ton of info....

Ok, TBI is throttle body injection, which means it control's how much fuel the carborator gets, right?? and what does it do to the ignition??/ would this work along side of the tfi???what other company's make such a kit???

I've got a Chevy TBI (off a 350) on my waggy 360, I get 14 or so. I drive hard and fast on the highway. Main benefit of FI is the fact that it will run at any angle. TBI is not a carb, it just sits on the same manifold with an adapter. The PO of my Jeep set up the TBI on mine, but he is a pretty sharp mechanic, does it for a living... That is one reason I bought the waggy. The Link listed above gives some really good information on FI systems. FI gives you benefits of quick starts, run at any angle (NO FLOATS)and better MPG, I am convinced there is no "good" mileage on a Jeep...
Check out the link above I believe his kits are good as is the projection kits offered by Holley.
John
Edit..By the way the Chev computer controls the dist/ignition functions as well as the fuel.

i too believe that if you want good gas mileadge than don't buy an FSJ, but i don't see anything wrong with getting the best possible mileadge that i can. right now im in the research stage and am trying to gather as much info as possible on the subject. That way when i do get the cash and time to do something then i know what im talking about........AL

I get less than 14 mpg average in my 2000 Dakota 4x4 with the small 4.7 V8, if I can get 14 in my fuel injected GM 350 powered FSJ, I will be way stoked!!!! (especially since I have to run 91 octane)
12 mpg isnt bad for any big V8 powered 4x4.
If you are down in the 9 to 10 average range. Id start doing some stuff to get that mpg up for sure! smile.gif

Ben's right... If you look @ modern SUV's, their milage ranges between 13-17mpg on V8's. Not really that much of a differance that your average FSJ getting 10-14mpg. Big differance... those new SUV's are in the $30k ball-park.
The only realistic way to get better MPG is EFI w/ overdrive on any heavy-weight vehicle. How you drive/lightening up your rig/proper maintenance/etc. helps you stretch the distance. smile.gif

Just a thought,... might wanna also consider converting to propane to give you better milage. I believe someone here has done this conversion on their rig.
Another plus 4 propane...alot cleaner, no prob's w/ any angles(upside down, floating in space) your rig might end up in. LOL! :D I would be curious as to the throttle response w/ this type of set-up.

FYI:
2000 Dodge Dakota 4x4 4.7l V8 OHC and "multi-speed" automatic tranny 31" tires, 3.93's and HD everything cost me close to $26K back in 2000 and it gets 13.5 mpg city and 16.5 mpg hwy.
1983 Jeep Cherokee 4x4 5.9l V8 pushrod and 3 spd non-lockup tranny, 31" tires, 3.31's and HD everything cost me $3000 in 2002 and it gets 10mpg city and 12mpg hwy.
Oh I should mention the Jeep has 177K and the Dakota has 30K on the odometer.

If you search thru old posts on this forum with my name TPIGUY, you'll see that I have been doing this for over 2 years now and I actually got started right here on this forum. I've come a long way and now build EFI kits full time for a living.
