What will have to be changed to put a dana 60 in a 1979 J-10 shortwheel base that had a dana 44? I was planning on up grading soon, but seens my ring and pinon striped out. Also I was wondering if a dana 44 from a 76 J-10 will fit a 1979 J-10?

What will I have to do to get a dana 60 from another model truck into my truck. Does anybody have info. on a J-20?

Yeah, a Dana 60 out of a J20 will be a direct swap but remember they had 8-lug axles so you'll have to swap the front axle also or the spindles, etc. Also, the Dana 44 out of the 76 will swap to the 79 as long as they are both offset or both centered. I can't remeber if there were any centered diffs in the 70s models but I' sure there were.

They are center. I am not worring about the lugs. Maybe I can get an adapter(less work).
