I'm trying to figure out what this loud noise is from the engine. It's a metallic clacking that increases with rpm. If I touch the fuel pump with a long screwdriver I can feel a ticking, but the fuel pump was replaced a couple of months ago. How can I see if the fuel pump is the noise maker or if it is elsewhere. I can barely here my radio!!!!!
HELP!!!!!

New fuel pump doesn't mean a thing- there are some bad rebuilds floating around. I had to replace the fuel pump on my truck 3 times due to 2 bad rebuilt units from Autoblown. Went to my regular small store (he's affiliated with the Bumper-to-Bumper chain) and haven't had one problem with the fuel pump.

Its my understanding, mostly from some of the posts i've read in the tech fourm, that mechanical pumps are notoriously bad in Jeep's or at least in wagoneers. When I got my 1980 the first thing i noticed was that the Mechanical pump was disconnected and replaced with an electric pump. Funny thing is it chatters as well when you first go to start it up but i beleive that it supplies fuel much better than the mechanical one.
