I don't know for sure but I would say no, it won't be a straight bolt up, unless you can find one with an input gear with the same number of splines as your current xcase. You may have to move your crossmember and possily lengthen/shorten your driveshafts depending on the dimentions of the new case vs. the old one.

Hope this helps,
Anthony

see the other post for more info. the 231 will bolt up as long as it has same # of input splines, which will be 23 on the 229. a 231 behind an auto or an ax15 manual will also have 23.

you will not have to move the xmember cause the tranny mount is on the tranny, not the xfer.

you will need a new rear driveshat. you will not need a new front if you use the right yoke, which will come on an xj cherokee with a 231.forgot to mention that in the other post. im pretty sure that the 231 was never fitted with the goofy tripot cv joint like the early 207. the 231 in an xj should also have a double cardigan joint like your stock front,so this yoke should be the one to use.

you will need a new shifter,or devise some funky linkage
