Ok, got all the bolts off, oil pan will not release from the block. I have been whacking for an hour with a rubber mallet, no dice. I am about to try either:
1. go aroung the outside with a torch to melt the old gasket seal
or
2. Try to work gasket remover in through the edges
I know there may be issues with the fly wheel cover , but this thing is STUCK not just hung up somewhere.
Also, I can't tell from the Haynes picture, is there supposed to be an indentation in the pan above the front diff? If not it looks like the PO hit somthing mighty hard.
Thanks!

get a putty knife or somthing like and tap it between the block and pan to break the seal loos it wont take much once you start it will become loose work it side to side start in the front and work your way back

There are 20 bolts holding the pan in place, see that you havent missed any.To remove mine I used a paint scraper ground a long shallow wedge and using only hand power worked it between block and pan.I would try and avoid using a flame around an oily engine.Should you try the flame I highly recomend a spotter with an extingisher

Craftsman makes a nifty little gasket cutter/Scraper...It has hook like ends that are pretty sharp and a long flat handle. It works great for cutting out gaskets between the pan and block.
Hmmmm nother reason to buy a new tool!

I would make sure that all of the oil pan bolts are removed......especially the ones inbetween the transmission and the oil pan (the hardest to get to). I removed my oil pan last year and it took me awhile to get that sucker off. I used a gasket scraper and a putty knife. It should have came off easier considering how much the darn thing leaked oil.

:D yup, check to be sure you have them all out before you try to pry... unlsee of course you like oil leaks.... not sure on the newer motors, but of the 73, it has 2 different size bolts... 4 bolts are bigger than the other 16, and are located at the front and rear seals.
