I have an 81 cherokee widetrack and i was thinking about taking a sawz-all and torch to to it to make it a convertible. Has anyone tried this and had succsess. I know I can cut the lid off I just don't know about finishing it. Any ideas would be great.

Scotty and I have all but exhausted this topic! I have a sawzall and an angle grinder, but the Chero that I was going to de-roof is up for sale! Maybe I'll win the lottery...(see Graham's post in General).
I think the old VW Bug style top would be tres cool...you know, cut a long rectangle out of the roof and have a collapsible (sp?) slide-back canvas top mounted on runners. Otherwise, you're gonna have to fab a top and the material for that is fairly pricey. Also, for safety's sake check out Killer32's interior rollbars for FSJs. They look great, and they're pretty beefy.

MAANN!!! What memories!!! My first car was a '72 Sun Coupe. The roof measured 3.5' wide x 3' long. I even took it wheelin'. Well, I used to go "parking" down a buried cable road and stuck it up to the doors one night. Oops. "Hey mom, I need to borrow your car ... don't ask"
Maybe that was the budding Jeeper in me trying to get out.
